Delivering a lecture at Chennai, he said that the pollution affects the poor and weaker sections of the society and not the affluent ones. He said that there should be a scientific temper to understand the amount of pollution in water bodies.

Applications for admissions under the Right to Education Act for 2026-27 will begin on Monday and the education department has instructed schools to open the online application window. Parents are requested to apply online at rte.tnschools.gov.in between April 20 and May 18. Parents who are unable to apply online may visit the respective schools or education offices to apply. The final list after scrutinisation will be released on 20th May and admissions will be made through draw of lots on 22nd May.

Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry President Uma Reddy has expressed concern over recent tariff orders by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, warning of a negative impact on industry and economic growth.
The orders include tariff hikes across ESCOMs and retrospective billing for FY 2025–26, increasing the financial burden on industrial and commercial consumers. FKCCI said this will disrupt working capital, raise production costs, and reduce competitiveness, particularly for MSMEs.
Reddy termed the retrospective revisions unfair, stating they distort financial planning and impose sudden liabilities. She also criticized the growing reliance on cross-subsidies, urging the government to directly fund subsidies instead.
FKCCI has called for reconsideration of these measures and emphasized the need for stable, transparent, and industry-friendly policies to sustain Karnataka’s industrial growth.

Telangana Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy has announced that freed bonded labourers will receive top priority in the allotment of Indiramma houses. Speaking at the conclusion of a state-level workshop on human trafficking and bonded labour prevention, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to rehabilitating those rescued from exploitation.
Between 2021 and 2025, authorities rescued 673 individuals across sectors including brick kilns, agriculture, and domestic services.
Minister Venkataswamy noted that these figures highlight the ongoing struggles of the state’s most vulnerable populations. He assured that the government is prepared to issue a special Government Order (GO) to guarantee housing for survivors and urged victims to approach him or local MLAs directly if they face any hurdles.
Regarding child labour, the Minister called for a compassionate approach, urging police to treat these cases as humanitarian issues rather than mere law and order violations. He specifically lauded the Nalgonda police for a recent successful rescue operation in Devarakonda. To further combat forced labour, the state has launched a 24/7 toll-free helpline, 8069434343, encouraging citizens to report instances of exploitation immediately as part of a broader mission to eradicate the practice.

सुरेखा सीकरी (अंग्रेज़ी: Surekha Sikri, जन्म- 19 अप्रॅल, 1945, नई दिल्ली; मृत्यु- 16 जुलाई, 2021, मुम्बई) एक भारतीय अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन कलाकार थीं। वह मुख्य तौर से हिंदी सिनेमा में सक्रिय थीं। वर्ष 2018 में आयी बॉलीवुड फिल्म ‘बधाई हो’ और धारावाहिक टेलीविजन शो ‘बालिका बधु’ (2008) के लिए सुरेखा सीकरी को जाना जाता है। धारावाहिक ‘बालिका वधु’ ने उन्हें घर-घर में पहचान दिलाई। तो क्यों न बालिका वधु की यादों को ताजा किया जाए।

अनंत लक्ष्मण कन्हेरे (अंग्रेज़ी: Anant Laxman Kanhere; जन्म- 1891 ई., इंदौर, मध्य प्रदेश; मृत्यु- 19 अप्रैल, 1910 ई., महाराष्ट्र) भारत के युवा क्रांतिकारियों में से एक थे। उन्हें देश की आज़ादी के लिए शहीद होने वाले युवाओं में गिना जाता है। 1909 ई. में ब्रिटिश सरकार के ख़िलाफ़ एक लेख लिखने के कारण गणेश सावरकर को आजन्म कारावास की सज़ा हुई थी। अंग्रेज़ सरकार के इस फैसले से क्रांतिकारियों में उत्तेजना पैदा हो गई। प्रतिशोध की भावना से प्रेरित होकर अनंत लक्ष्मण कन्हेरे ने 21 दिसम्बर, 1909 ई. को नासिक के ज़िला अधिकारी जैक्सन को गोली मार दी। बाद में कन्हेरे पकड़ लिये गए और मात्र 19 वर्ष की अवस्था में उन्हें फाँसी दे दी गई।
