BSF’s Indian-Bred Canine Squad to Showcase Skills at Ekta Diwas Celebration

At the National Unity Day Ekta Diwas Parade on Friday, 31st October, a special Border Security Force BSF contingent of indigenous canine squad (K9s) will be on display, showcasing discipline, agility and India’s growing confidence in native breeds.
 
 
The  Ekta Diwas Parade will also feature a dog training demonstration, showcasing tactical skills and operational excellence, a living symbol of India’s self-reliant and proud K9 force. 
 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the increased inclusion of indigenous dogs in BSF and CRPF in the 127th episode of his Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani on Sunday.
 
 
Mr Modi mentioned a dog named Riya, the Mudhol Hound of BSF, who created history at the All India Police Duty Meet 2024,  becoming the first Indian breed to win Best in Tracker Trade and Best Dog of the Meet.
 
 
Director General of BSF Daljit Singh Chawdhary said, indigenous dog breeds, Rampur Hounds and Mudhol Hounds will demonstrate their skills at the Ekta Diwas Parade. He said, these breeds have made significant contributions as force multipliers during BSF operations, embodying the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
 
 
Director of BSF Academy Tekanpur, Dr Shamsher Singh, said the Prime Minister had discussed about Indian breeds of dogs in the Mann Ki Baat program. He said, taking inspiration from it, BSF Academy initiated breeding and training programmes, and till now 150 indian breed dogs are deployed at the borders.
