In Boxing, the 7th National Sub-Junior (Under-17) Championship commenced in Nagpur yesterday. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The week-long championship has drawn an impressive participation of nearly 600 young boxers from across the country, underscoring its growing stature in the national sporting calendar.
The contingent includes around 250 girls and 350 boys, accompanied by nearly 180 coaches and team managers, along with 70 officials. Competitions will be held across 13 weight categories. The Championship will conclude on 11th of this month.
Beyond the medals, the championship serves as a crucial selection platform. Outstanding performers will be shortlisted for the Indian Under-17 squad and will go on to represent the country at the Asian Boxing Championship to be held later this year in Tashkent.
