In Assam, the flood situation continues to remain grim in the State as over 5 lakh 60 thousand people in 19 districts are reeling under the deluge. The death toll has risen to 16. During the last 24 hours two more people lost their lives, and one person is missing in flood-related incidents across the state.
About 1400 villages are affected by floods, and over 1900 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across the state. The State Government has engaged SDRF and NDRF teams for rescue operations.
The rivers Brahmaputra, Barak, Burhi Dihing, Kopili, Sonai, Katakhal Kushiyara are flowing above danger level.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 41 thousand people are in the 175 relief camps. Road, railway and ferry services have been disrupted at various places across the State.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of light to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms at isolated places all over the State.
