Andhra Pradesh initiates steps to maximise implementation of PM e-Bus Seva Scheme

The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated steps to maximise the implementation of the PM e-Bus Seva scheme, with Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad directing officials to prepare a detailed and time-bound action plan. He chaired the third State-Level Sanctioning Committee meeting at the Secretariat today and reviewed progress with APSRTC officials.

The government plans to introduce 750 electric buses in the first phase across 11 cities, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Amaravati, Guntur, Kurnool and Tirupati. The initiative is aimed at replacing overaged buses, reducing fuel consumption and curbing pollution, while improving commuter experience.

Officials stated that Tirupati already operates 100 e-buses and efforts are underway to expand services further. Infrastructure development at 12 locations has been estimated at Rs 129.51 crore, with funding shared between the Centre and the state.

Under the national plan, the Centre aims to deploy 10,000 air-conditioned electric buses across 116 cities by 2027, focusing on Tier-2 and Tier-3 urban areas.
