Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu to unveil 58-foot bronze statue of Potti Sriramulu in Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will unveil a 58-foot bronze statue of Potti Sriramulu at Shakhamuru Park in Amaravati today, marking the 125th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for a separate state for Telugu people. The statue has been installed as part of a memorial project developed by the Potti Sriramulu Memorial Trust. The first phase of the project has been completed on 6.80 acres of land at an estimated cost of 150 crore rupees.

The trust completed construction of the 58-foot statue in about six months. According to project details, about 26 tonnes of bronze and 42 tonnes of iron were used in building the structure. The memorial complex is being developed to commemorate Sriramulu’s sacrifice and his 58-day fast demanding the formation of a separate state for Telugu-speaking people.

In the second phase of the project, additional facilities, including a museum, photo gallery, auditorium and skill development centre, will be constructed at the site. Officials said the memorial is intended to preserve the legacy of Sriramulu and to highlight his role in the movement that eventually led to the formation of the Andhra State.
