Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has said that the progress of area coverage under summer crops has recorded more than 64 lakh hectare area. The Ministry said that summer crops have witnessed a significant growth of 0.77 lakh hectares compared to the corresponding period of last year. It added that the rice was sown over 30 lakh hectare area, while pulses were cultivated in more than 11 lakh hectare area. According to the Ministry, over 13 lakh hectare areas was covered under the cultivation of Shri Anna and Coarse Cereals, which is around one lakh hectare more than the corresponding period of last year. Meanwhile, the area cultivated with oilseeds was recorded with are coverage of more than 8 lakh hectares.
