The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary report into the VSR Ventures’s Learjet plane crash near Baramati in Maharashtra, in which Deputy Chief Minister of the State Ajit Pawar and four others lost their lives on the 28th of January this year. The report stated that all the aspects of the accident will be examined and investigated to bring out the facts, root cause and contributory factors leading to the accident. The evidence collected is being analysed for further course of action.
It added that in view of the interim findings brought out so far, it is considered necessary to issue interim safety recommendations so that necessary preventive actions can be taken promptly to enhance aviation safety. AAIB said that it is recommended that DGCA issue necessary directions to all operators operating Visual Flight Rules flights to uncontrolled airfields to strictly adhere to the laid-down standard operating procedures.
The report also stated that necessary directions may also be issued to all the aerodrome operators and organisations to ensure that the flying operations in the airfield are allowed only when the prevailing meteorological conditions are within the criteria laid down in the relevant DGCA regulations.
