Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that a total of 75 projects worth 61,000 crore rupees have been approved under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) programme. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw described the approval of the next tranche of applications under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) as a significant milestone in India’s electronics manufacturing journey.
He said that these projects are expected to bring in an investment of around 61,000 crore rupees and generate approximately 65 thousand direct jobs in the country. He said that India started with the manufacturing of finished products, then moved towards modules, followed by sub-modules, and has now progressed to the manufacturing of components. He added that in a very comprehensive manner of developing the electronics industry, the country has today reached a level where it is able to manufacture finished products, modules, sub-modules, and now components, along with semiconductor chips in parallel, which form the active part of the component ecosystem.
