In Tamil Nadu, 11 people were killed and 54 others injured after two Tamil Nadu government buses collided head-on near Kummangudi in Sivaganga district yesterday.
The accident occurred around five kilometres from Pillaiyarpatti, in the Tirupattur area.
Rescue efforts by the public and fellow passengers helped pull several victims out of the mangled vehicles. One of the buses was travelling from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was headed from Karaikudi towards Dindigul district.
President Droupadi Murmu has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the road accident.
In a social media post, President said she is deeply saddened by the incident and conveyed her condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. She also prayed for the quick recovery of those undergoing treatment.
