10th anniversary of Skill India Mission being observed on World Youth Skills Day

The 10th Anniversary of the Skill India Mission is being observed today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched this mission in 2015 to equip youth with industry-relevant skills for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Jayant Chaudhary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth through practical, job-ready skills across sectors. He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Skill India continues to transform lives, especially for women and marginalised communities.

Akashvani correspondent reports that Skill India is an initiative of the Central Government to empower the youth with skill sets, making them more employable.

Through several initiatives, such as PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana and the Skill India Digital Hub, the country is moving towards becoming a global skill hub. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has empowered more than six crore youth through its various schemes to build a brighter future for the country. Over one crore sixty lakh youths have been trained across 38 sectors since 2015 under Pradhanmantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Of these, 45 per cent are women, and a significant proportion comes from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backwards Classes. The youths have been trained in diverse sectors, such as manufacturing, construction, traditional craft, healthcare, IT, electronics and retail. The government’s efforts have led to an improvement in Job-readiness among college students from 34 per cent in 2014 to over 51 per cent in 2024. With almost 65 per cent of the population under 35 years of age, skilling and youth empowerment are the keys to India’s future. With Dipendra Kumar, Vishnu PS, Akashvani News Delhi.
